Rede Partners opens Hong Kong office and appoints Charles Wan as Head of Asia

Rede Partners, a leading independent fundraising advisor to the private markets, has opened a new office in Hong Kong and appointed Charles Wan as its regional head.

Alongside Rede’s existing bases in New York and London, the new Hong Kong office will provide Rede with a physical presence in Asia and act as a hub for expanded activity across the region. As part of the newly created role, Charles will assume responsibility for Rede’s Asian investor coverage and provide strategic advisory services to GPs in the region, supporting GP-led transactions, fund financing, and fundraising.

With over 18 years’ experience in financial services, Charles has spent the majority of his career focused on the private equity sector in Asia. Prior to joining Rede, Charles was a Partner at Atlantic-Pacific Capital, a global fundraising advisor, for nearly nine years where he co-led Asian advisory and investor coverage for the firm. Beforehand, he was an investment professional at Pomona Capital, a global secondaries and private equity fund-of-funds manager, where he spent five years investing in managers across the Asia-Pacific region.

Charles Wan, Head of Asia at Rede Partners said, “Rede has built an outstanding reputation as a market-leading private markets advisory firm working with some of the industry’s most dynamic GPs and LPs. I am thrilled to be joining the team at a time when that success is translating into further international expansion, and look forward to working with the entire Rede team to add further breadth and depth to our LP network, contributing to Rede’s global success overall.

The private markets in Asia sit at an important juncture of development. Asian LP interest and allocation to the asset class is seeing a step-change, with maturing high-quality Asian managers and their investment programs presenting a fertile ground for the next generation of dynamic growth in the region.”

The appointment comes on the heels of a landmark year for Rede Partners, with the firm celebrating its ten-year anniversary in 2021. During the year, Rede grew to over 100 professionals, appointed three new Partners, and raised over €20 billion of commitments for its primary fundraising clients across 13 funds holding final closes. Rede’s dedicated GP-Led Transactions team advised on six transactions worth a further €2 billion.

Kristina Widegren, Partner at Rede Partners said, “Since inception, Rede has nurtured close relationships with LPs across the globe. The opening of Rede’s Hong Kong office underlines our commitment to Asia, presenting us with an opportunity to enhance those relationships and forge new ones. This is a critical step for Rede’s ongoing growth – cementing our position as a truly global advisor with the capability to support GPs to achieve their strategic ambitions, worldwide.

We are delighted that Charles has agreed to join Rede to spearhead this exciting milestone in Rede’s growth. Charles’ on-the-ground presence in Hong Kong, together with his outstanding network of relationships and extensive Asian private markets experience, will bring valuable benefits for both our GP clients and our network of LPs.”

The appointment is the latest in a series of senior hires over the last 18 months and brings the firm’s headcount to over 100 across its three global offices. Thumi Sivayogarajan, Associate Principal in Rede’s Advisory and Origination team joined Rede from fundraising adviser Campbell Lutyens. Jurian Jongbloed and Aleksandra Putra have joined Rede’s European LP Coverage team, bringing experience from JP Morgan, Pemberton Asset Management and Goldman Sachs. Sakib Rashid, formally at Partners Capital, joins the firm in New York to further extend Rede’s leadership in Impact. Finally, Laura Cowan joined Rede as Head of HR from Blackrock where she was an HR Business Partner.
